Re: My New Position with CourtCall
I wanted to let you know that, effective July 1, 2015 I have started my new position as the Director of Court and Government Affairs for CourtCall. This is a new and exciting opportunity for me to work with a company that is committed to improving access to justice and improving efficiencies for the courts and the parties that appear before them.
CourtCall was established in 1995, with the desire to make remote Court Appearances simple, accessible and affordable for all parties. With this objective in mind, CourtCall developed the Remote Appearance Platform, creating an organized and voluntary way for attorneys to appear for routine matters in Civil, Family, Criminal, Probate, Bankruptcy, Workers’ Compensation and other cases from their offices, homes or other convenient locations. Designed with reliable and user-friendly technologies, Courts and remote participants experience seamless communication during cases, while benefitting from significant time and cost savings.
Today, CourtCall remains the industry leader for conducting remote Court Appearances throughout the United States, Canada and Worldwide. Technologies continue to expand, such that remote Court Appearances can be conducted via audio and or video and we can assist with VRI, remote trial technology, remote audio or video arraignments, disaster preparedness, remote testimony, mental health review proceedings, juvenile review hearings and our traditional remote appearance program for Motions, Status Conferences, Case Management Conferences, Show Cause hearings and virtually any other type of proceeding. Our traditional remote appearance program has been used by thousands of judges and tens of thousands of attorneys on more than 4,000,000 occasions.
My new contact information is:
Curtis L. Child
Director of Court and Government Relations
6383 Arizona Circle
Los Angeles, CA 90045
(888) 882-6878 Ext. 469
I hope that we will have the opportunity to work together on ways to create greater efficiencies in the judicial process. I will be in touch but please feel free to contact me anytime if I can provide any assistance or information about CourtCall’s services.
Very truly yours,
We (obviously) omitted who forwarded us this communique but let us tell you that there is a gaggle of judges today that are steamed that what was supposed to be a confidential business email address was hijacked and is now being used by Curt in an attempt to cash in on his service to the courts.
We tried to contact Curt and attempted to ask him how he got these email addresses. The number above forwarded us to his Sacramento based cell phone and he likely gulped as he read the caller ID and declined to answer.
As much as we would love to cry foul, it would appear that Mr. Child’s solicitation is legal and does not fall under California Government Code 87406 because Mr. Child worked for the accountable to no one Judicial Branch. Unfortunately it would appear that the Milton Marks Postgovernmental Restrictions Act of 1990 does not prohibit a revolving door between the judicial branch, the legislature or its vendors. There might be a rule of court that prohibits this but nobody knows better than Curt that there is no one to enforce rules of court outside of a courtroom.
Nonetheless, it does seem to give CourtCall a massive advantage because Curt knows all the movers and shakers in the branch and the legislature – and he has all of their contact information.
What do you think about the email?
If you haven’t already written the legislature about a construction audit, please do so as soon as possible as there is less than 15 days left.
Only 23% of current and former AOC employees would recommend going to work for the Judicial Council. One of those employees think we run the judicial council. Nah, we just like to try and keep them honest.
Somebody’s gotta do it….
The AOC has, according to their own email, answered ONE question regarding the Long Beach Courthouse. We feel confident that they have the big picture and the big picture looks scandalous, so they’re trying to find a way to not release us any information. Especially before August 4th when all requests for state audits are due.
Have we met our 500 audit request letter goal? We’re not sure because we asked you to snail mail them directly but if the petition is any indication, that’s a big, fat no. So please, sign the Moveon petition embedded in a comment of the previous post or send a letter to the joint legislative audit committee.
