Governor Brown today issued a historic veto today of an “unbalanced” budget issued by Democratic lawmakers. This veto temporarily spares the judicial branch those additional $150 million in budget cuts.
Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye issued a statement of relief over the Governors veto indicating that this would give her “a chance to demonstrate why the courts would be devastated by additional cuts. ” Maybe it should be a chance (and a very abrupt one at that) to get her AOC fiscal house in order, starting with this year end spending binge that the AOC is currently engaged in.

He did the right thing. It’s time to bite the bullet, turn the deficit into a surplus and start chipping away at California’s current 371 billion dollar liability. *That liability excludes 500 billion in pension liabilities and excludes nearly 53 billion dollars in bonds that are authorized but not yet issued – including 5 billion worth of court construction bonds.
