Pennsylvania Judge Mark Ciavarella found guilty of racketeering

Posted on February 18, 2011

In the nearly concluded saga of the Kids for Cash scandal in Pennsylvania, former judge Mark Ciavarella was found guilty on 12 counts including racketeering and conspiracy while the same jury acquitted him on 27 other counts.

Another judge, Michael Conahan pleaded guilty earlier to a single count of racketeering. Both former judges remain free pending sentencing.

You’re probably wondering the reason I cover this story. The same lack of safeguards that existed in Pennsylvania are even worse here in California. In two programs run by the AOC, there is a whole lot more money involved and similar rumblings of impropriety.
